Start wherever your student is. Each stage meets them at their own vocabulary level and builds from there.
The question worth asking any app your child uses is what it does with their data. Ours does nothing with it, because there is almost nothing to do anything with. No analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels — not one third-party request on any page your student touches — and that is not a policy, it is a check: our build fails automatically if a tracking script ever appears on a page Compass can reach. We store the lessons they finished and the name they chose. No age, no address, no phone number. Nothing to sell, because we never collected it.

For parents
Your child’s account exists because you allowed it, and it stops existing when you say so. That is not a setting we added — it is how the thing is built.
Nothing on Compass is sold to anyone. No ad network, no sponsored content, no product placement inside a lesson.
Not one third-party request on any page your child sees. No analytics scripts, no pixels, no embedded video that phones home.
One control stops us recording anything further, without deleting what is already there. Their work stays; the collecting stops.
Not a request form and not a ten-day wait. You delete the account and the record goes — progress, display name, everything keyed to them.

If a school ever licenses a seat for your child, the school can see their progress and return the seat. It cannot delete the account. That stays with you.
We are not asking you to trust us on any of this. The privacy policy states it, the retention schedule is published, and the controls are in your account settings rather than in an email to support.

Compass seats for classrooms, co-ops and youth programs are licensed annually and quoted rather than bought on a card — the consent model is built so that no student account can exist before a parent has consented, and that takes a conversation. Enrollment is paused while that flow is completed. Educators manage their own roster afterwards. FHG University seats, for staff and adult learners, are available separately.
